2. About Us
Who We Are
The Bungoma Teenage Mothers Empowerment Organisation (BUTEMEO) is a grassroots Community-Based Organization (CBO) located in Bungoma County, Kenya. Established to respond to the growing crisis of teenage pregnancy and marginalization, BTMEO empowers adolescent mothers and vulnerable girls with life skills, vocational training, psychosocial support, and economic opportunities.

A society where every teenage mother lives in dignity, with access to education, protection, and economic independence.
Our Mission
To equip teenage mothers and vulnerable women in Bungoma with tools for self-reliance through comprehensive empowerment programs, life-skills training, education support, and community advocacy.

3. Our Programs
A.Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM)
(I)Distribution of reusable sanitary pads and menstrual hygiene kits to girls in and out of school.
(II)Workshops on menstrual health and breaking myths/taboos around menstruation.
(iii)Engaging communities, especially male allies, to promote period dignity.
(iv)Promoting school retention by addressing menstrual-related absenteeism.
B. Indigenous Leafy Vegetables Value Addition & Agribusiness
Promoting climate-resilient indigenous vegetables such as managu, sagaa, amaranth, and cowpeas.
Training teenage mothers in sustainable farming, post-harvest handling, and organic preservation techniques (drying, powdering).
Branding, packaging, and marketing of value-added ILV products for income generation.
Nutrition education campaigns to restore local food systems and fight malnutrition.


C. Skilling & Livelihood Development
1. Soap Making
Training in bar soap, liquid soap, and multipurpose detergent production.
Entrepreneurship development and branding support for small-scale start-ups.
2. Bead Making
Creation of handcrafted jewelry, accessories, and household items.
Cultural preservation and economic empowerment for young mothers.

3. Cookery & Catering
Culinary skills training including traditional foods, modern recipes, and bakery (cakes, snacks).
Certification and support in starting small catering businesses or food stalls.

D. Back-to-School Program for Teenage Mothers
Reintegration of adolescent mothers into formal school systems or alternative learning pathways (ALPs).
Provision of basic education materials and school fees support.
Mentorship and emotional support to overcome stigma and stay in school.
Partnerships with local schools to promote acceptance and inclusivity.
E. Shelter and Safeguarding Program
BUTEMEO Safe Space & Rescue Shelter - Jasiri program
A temporary shelter for teenage mothers, victims of defilement, GBV survivors, and girls in crisis.
Holistic care: shelter, counseling, legal support, nutrition, and medical referrals.
Life skills and psychosocial support provided in a safe, confidential, and supportive environment.
Collaboration with government child protection services, health facilities, and legal aid organizations.
